High School Graduation

Today is graduation day! Its currently about 6am and I am full of nerves, excitement, happiness, sadness...basically my stomach is full of butterflies and my emotions are all over the place. And so I am making this blog post to express how I feel about this big day and to share my graduation photos.

Now that graduation is here, it feel like the last 17 years of my life went by so fast! I can remember being in elementary school and looking up to the seniors who were like giants to me! And then being in middle school and graduating from 8th grade with my best friends. Then came the big move, leaving St. Maarten, leaving my friends, family, school, and island to move to Maryland. I remember driving by my new school and being amazed by the size of the building! I remember my first day of high school, I was a new girl not only to the high school but to the town and the whole country. No one knew what or where St. Maarten was and I didn't know how to fit into an American high school.

I remember feeling like a small fish in a big pond, and throughout freshmen year I didn't really make my splash yet! But this all started to change as I got more comfortable with my new home and began to show everyone who Kyeisha really was. Fast forward to today, I am ranked #20 in my class, have increased my GPA every year from 3.75 to 3.9 to the big 4.0 and am graduating with a 4.4! I pushed myself with AP Classes, I tried to make a difference in my school by being SGA Vice President, French Honor Society President, and helping clubs such as Key Club and SADD. I've spread my love for music by being in A Capella Chorus every year and being a founder of our group Royal Timbres as well as participating in honors choirs and all county choirs. I definitely made my splash.

I am saying all of this just to express that life is all about hard work and progress. Its not about how you start its about how you finish. Its not about being the BEST its about being BETTER than you were before! When I started writing this post my stomach was in a knot, its not easy saying goodbye to what you know. But I know that I can handle any challenges that come my way and that I can continue to grow. My goal when I moved here was to make my island and everyone in it proud. I am a small island girl in a big world, but that doesn't limit me! It only makes me work harder to show everyone I know that we can achieve anything we put our minds to!

Today I will not say goodbye, I will say see you later! I am confident that I will read about my classmates, or see them on TV, or vote for them one day! I don't say goodbye because this is not the end, it is a beginning. It is the start of our lives. I know that I would not have been able to do this without my support system, especially my mom who has motivated and inspired me everyday!

In a few hours I will be walking across the stage and making the transition from high school student to college bound student. "She turned her CAN'T into CANS and her DREAMS into PLANS " xoxo Kye
