Trello for College Planning

Updated: Jul 31, 2020

Hello my lovely readers, today I wanted to share my latest new way to organize my college classes and plan by using Trello! After using it for a few weeks, I am absolutely in love with how it helps me stay productive and on top of everything.

I've made my board into a template so that you can try it too! Click this link to access my template board. Trello is also an app, I have it on my iPad and iPhone which gives me access to my board easily!

Why I love using Trello

I like Trello because it is very easy to use. Before I started using this board, I made these long to do lists on a GoogleDoc. I like making to-do lists because it keeps me on track on what I need to get done and it motivates me when I see all the different checkmarks! However, to-do lists can easily be overwhelming especially when they get too long. After we transitioned to an online teaching environment, my to-do list basically doubled!

I was looking for a new way to organize my college work and that's when I saw a friend recommend Trello. It is both aesthetically pleasing and very functional. If you are someone like me who loooooves planning then I think you would really enjoy it.

You can also use Trello for a team board where you can assign tasks to certain members, add due dates, and keep your team accountable. Right now, I am only using Trello for personal planning and I use my "School" board the most.

How to Use

I have used it to keep track of my college courses. As you see above, I label all my cards with a different color for each task. This helps me to take a quick look and see what I have to do for each class. In the first list, I linked my different google folders as this gives me easy access to my notes and assignments.

Every Sunday, I go through each class and add cards to the "Do This Week" list. Then at the start of each day I just simply drag over a card from that list to my "To Do Today" list. This saves so much time at the start of each day and I know exactly what I have to get done!

I have another list for major assignments and for upcoming exams. What I like about Trello is that I can use my weekly and daily to do list to break up those large assignments or exam study plans into smaller steps. There is also a checklist option, so for example for studying for biochemistry I list out each lecture I need to cover like this:

The checklist function gives me a percentage which is really motivating! This also keeps me organized so that I don't miss a lecture, ensuring that I have studies everything for my upcoming exam.

My last three lists are my done list, my self-care list and my "extra-time to do list":

Whenever I finish a task, I move it over to the Done list! It makes me feel really accomplished to look at the done list at the end of each day. I also made a Self-Care list, each day I drag over a self-care item onto my daily to-do list to encourage wellness and help me plan breaks in my schedule. Finally I have an additional to do list for things that don't need to be done by a certain date, but things that I have at the back of my mind to get done soon. This can also be used for long term goals.

My Template

Trello is free and there are different templates to give you ideas of how to set up the board. You can click here for my template that I have found super helpful! Here is a look at the template:

I included some tips on how to use the template! If you try it out, please tag me on instagram or leave a comment below! I would love to hear how it works for you!

I hope everyone stays safe and healthy and thank you for reading!

Happy Planning ;)

xoxo,

Kye
